    What is the CSDP?

The IEEE Computer Society Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) certification is the only software development (engineering) certification that has all of the components of a professional certification:

  • Exam-based testing demonstrating mastery of a body of knowledge in software engineering
  • Extensive experience base in the performance of the work or profession being certified
  • Continuing professional education, measured and relevant to software engineering

The CSDP is intended for mid-level software engineering professionals.  Before taking the exam, candidates are required to have a baccalaureate or equivalent degree and at least 9,000 hours of experience in at least 6 of the 11 knowledge areas the exam covers.

Early on, Dr. Richard Hall Thayer was asked by the Computer Society President to prepare a three-day course to assist software engineering professionals in passing the exam.

Dr. Thayer developed his IEEE CSDP exam preparation course in 2001, basing it on the same exam specifications used by the exam's writers. He is a developer and teacher of the CSDP Exam Preparatory Course and the CSDP Study Guides, provided the technical contents for the Computer Society’s distance leaning coarse, and defined the CSDP Glossary.

  • 200 new questions (English only)
  • A means of evaluating your readiness to take the exam

This CD course is synchronized with and supports the

·         IEEE Computer Society Press 2-volume, Software Engineering tutorials (3rd edition), co-edited by, R.H. Thayer, M.J. Christensen, and M. Dorfman

·         IEEE Guide to Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK 2001 and 2004 editions)
